The Wheel weaves as the Wheel wills

Robert Jordan (James Oliver Rigney Jr.) wrote about Conan the Barbarian before he started writing his epic fantasy series Wheel of Time, published first in 1990, starting with Eye of the World. Jordan was not able to finish the series, of 14 books, himself. The final three were written after his passing by Brandon Sanderson. There is also a prequel, New Spring, best is to read this after the first three books, because of some spoilers.

The series is about three young men, were one of them is said to be The Dragon Reborn, two young women, Aes Sedai, some others picked up on the road and of course The Dark One and his army.

The story starts at a place called Two Rivers, Emond's Field, where a man and a young man are traveling from farm to village. Along the road the boy noticed something odd, later in the village he learns two of his friends also had the same experience. News comes to this group about two strangers in the village. In the evening, on the night before the festive, there is an attack on the village and farm. The strangers, an Aes Sedai and a Warder, know more what is going on and says to the young men they are in danger and staying will put the village people also in danger. Soon after three young men prepare to leave the village on a journey to the White Tower, Tar Valon, and will get company by the Aes Sedai and the Warder. But also some other unexpected company will join the group. Being chased by the Dark Lord's army, they travel from village to city and try to avoid the dangers. But will they keep running or stand and face the Dark One himself? And who is The Dragon Reborn?

Although from the start it is already obvious who is the Dragon, does not bother the story at all. It stays exciting, mostly for the places they go to and the dangers that are always present. Most of the time unexpected things happen, or something new gets revealed. The road is long, sometimes parts seem to be to long and take forever, until that sudden moment. It is well written, good balance and not to deep in details, just enough to shape an image in the mind. It was a joy to read and will continue to read the series.
