A true beauty of metafiction!
The book is divided in a very creative way. On one side, you read the opening chapters of ten different books; on the other, you follow the intertwined story of the reader and the “other reader” as they search for the books they wish to continue—and explore how they want to read them.
In the chapters the author writes about these two readers, I could recognise elements of how I would be or am as a reader. The thoughts are so well written down and make you reflect on how you read and what you read changes you as a person.
Every opening of a new book is a complete different story and each story ends on a cliffhanger. This kept me intrigued to see what would happen next in the book.
The blending of the two distinct storylines into one book is superbly done.
So many fantastic quotes to choose from but I think this will be my favourite:
“To fly is the opposite of traveling: you cross a gap in space, you vanish into the void, you accept not being in a place for a duration that is itself a kind of void in time; then you reappear, in a place and in a moment with no relation to the where and when in which you vanished.”
