A mandatory read for everyone!

“The Eyes of Gaza” by Plestia Alaqad was this month's book club read. This diary-format book is authentically written by a young Gazan journalist who experienced this genocide committed by the illegal state of Israel firsthand. I felt a range of emotions reading it—mostly anger and sadness, but also disbelief that after almost two years there’s still no end to these atrocities.
Plestia is able to share her own raw experiences and those of her family members, colleagues, and the people she interviews in a way that makes the Gazans relatable and not just victims. Each of them has their own stories, dreams, and futures they aspired to, all of which have been destroyed by the genocide, except for their spirit and love for each other and their land.
This story is a wake-up call. If you are not awake yet, this story definitely will be.
It humbles me and makes me more grateful for all the blessings that I have. Alhamdulillah.
Most of us have read “The Diary of Anne Frank” - rightfully so. This book by Plestia Alaqad is the next mandatory read that everybody should experience. Period.
