Can the study of history be presented so the reader understands the relevance of the centuries-old events as the 21st century continues to unfold? Each chapter is based on a period of history beginning with early Hebrew education. Each period is viewed through the following lenses:

Purpose of education (what was to be accomplished)
Educational contexts (physical environment and methods)
Educational content (what was being taught), and
Voices (the primary shapers of education in the period).
