An extensive collection of Javanese gold from the 7th and 8th centuries including museum artIfacts and private collections. The sagas and legends portrayed in the treasures, bear witness to the active role that the gods played in society. The book has many color plates and includes a foreword by Stanley Bremer. This catalogue entitled Gold of the Gods, is published in association with the exhibition Goud der Godden in the Wereld museum in Rotterdam. For the exhibition, five sets of related sacred gold ornaments were displayed on specially made models. They represent Vishnu, Goddess, King, Queen, and Princess. All the gold pieces shown are ancient and were made to measure. Silver and gold paraphernalia and jewelry, a gold stupa and ascetic plaques made from gold are also included in this book.
