Feels
Epic. This series will be my ruination. Imagine an epic scene like Lord of the Rings with Gandalf riding towards Helm’s Deep or the lighting of the beacons combined with the haunting song of Pippin at Minas Tirith. Imagine that feeling of hope and dread at the same time and then imagine that between all the epicness you care deeply for each and every character involved. That’s Reaper at the Gates. It is both macro and micro, grand scales that seem inevitable and horrible and the micro problems of characters that you feel deeply and intensely. Sabaa has written another masterpiece. It’s an agony to wait for book 4. FEELS I HAVE SO MANY FEELS. Elias and Laia and Helene... oooh I love them but Sabaa keeps hurting them so much and I just need a spark of happiness... and I also love how inhuman the human Commandant is compared to the humanity of the very non-human Nightbringer. Brilliant (this last sentence works better in Dutch lol but I can’t describe it any different). AND YOU SEE ALL THE SIDES AND EMPATHISE and that in itself is powerful writing. (Love the subtle mention of refugees too). Yes, this review is all over the place because I am shattered. Do yourself a favor and read it and be emotionally torn apart.
