Lezersrecensie
Cozy, clever, and timeless
This book is part of Agatha Christie’s Poirot series, and you can really tell it was written later in her career. Her confidence and mastery of storytelling shine through
In this story, Poirot is asked to solve a cold case: a couple found shot dead, a gun lying nearby… but what really happened? Murder–suicide? Double suicide? Or something far more complex?
Without giving anything away, I can say that Poirot, as always, delivers the truth with his trademark brilliance. The writing is sharp and elegant, the cast is small (which I loved), and the characters that are present feel fully formed and memorable.
For the first time ever with Agatha Christie, I managed to predict the ending about halfway through That doesn’t usually happen to me with her books! It didn’t ruin the experience, but I do prefer being completely blindsided. The clues felt just a little too obvious this time.
That said: I absolutely recommend this book, just like all Poirot novels. These are true classics, and you can clearly see how much modern mystery writing has been inspired by Agatha Christie’s work
