Touching read

This book was recommended by Benedict Cork (go check out this talented singer, he just released his debut album) for the bookclub we have with him. It has been some time since we read a book together and this was a very special one. I actually don't have much with war books. With that I mean books about world war one or two. But this book touched me.

Gaunt and Ellwood are friends at boarding school and have feelings for each other, but both aren't telling the other about them. When something happens between them Gaunt gets enlisted and goes to war. It takes a little time, but next Elly follows him to war and comes also in his regiment. They finally confess what they feel for each other, although it is forbidden at that time. Send on an suidice mission Elly thinks Gaunt is death, but he survived and is taken prisson by the German. Elly fights on and doesn't care for his live anymore.
I don't want to spoil the end about if they find each other again and such.

A book which describes what a war does to people while going on and afterwards.
