Cop Hater

With two cops shot dead in a heat-wave, Detective Steve Carella is scouring town for a man with a record, a grudge, and a .45. There's plenty ... and a press that's sniping from safe cover. A hot lead from a stool pigeon takes Carella down Whore Street, but a lousy lead from the press takes the killer to Teddy Franklin's apartment. She's Carella's girl, and the killer's prepared to wait.
