Powerful story
28 mrt 2024
Such a powerful story, told from a beautiful girl's perspective. The book is about many aspects of early 20th century American society, but if there's one timeless theme that resonates with me, it is that of the integrity and intrinsic morality of children. Written with so much love and humor that you don't want to put it away before finishing it.
The book was recommended to me by my 16 year old son, who is not a reader at all but had to read this for school. I was surprised that the story appealed to him, as there's not much action but rather a lot of reflection and introspection. I guess it was the tone of voice that made him like it, and perhaps also the sharp way in which racism is described.
