Uniek!

I would classify The Art of Saving the World as urban scifi with a pince of fantasy. Honestly, it defines genres because it’s so unique! But before I go into that, let me tell you a bit what it’s about.

When Hazel Stanczak was born, a giant rift appeared beside her house. And if she got too far away from it, the rift would move and cause havoc. As you can imagine, the government stepped in and closed off the entire site, and Hazel has lived her life within 1,5 miles of the rift.

But on her sixteenth birthday the rift opens wide and things are coming through it… among them might be some doppelgangers from different dimensions. And she finds out it’s up to her and her doppelgangers to save the world. But it might be more complicated than she thinks…

I think The Art of Saving the World is a masterpiece. It takes the Chosen One trope and turns it upside down and inside out. And the result is a very unique plot, and twists you’d never guess but are BRILLIANT. Even though this is a fast paced adventure, there is much time for the characters themselves, as you can imagine having doppelgangers is gonna be really weird. I love how they slowly tried to figure out what they have in common besides the obvious, and that gives us a lot of introspection and deep questions. There is also excellent mental health rep, which I loved (also, I think it’s very realistic for a main character to get an actual panic attack after getting some disturbing information). There is also disability rep for endometriosis, which I loved to read about as many people don’t know about this when it’s quite common. And there is a lot of queerness! The main character identifies as lesbian and ace, though she’s afraid to talk about it yet. There is also a really sassy lady dragon mentor I hugely enjoyed. She is the best! And those plot twists! Aaaah I can’t tell anything about it, but it’s SO GOOD.

I recommend this book so much, please go read it as it definitely deserves more hype!
