When I became the director of the 'Kunstpalast' (in Düsseldorf, Germany) in 2017, I already knew that I wanted to put together an extensive show on fashion photography -- that powerfully influential genre of photography that has been encapsulating the 'Zeitgeist' for as long as anyone can remember. The theme would be the 1990s, a decade which has recently been experiencing a noticeable cultural revival, influencing contemporary art, design and pop culture. From the start it was clear that pretty much no one would be better suited to curate the exhibition than Claudia Schiffer. ...... Last but not least, my greatest thanks go to the curator. I am hugely indebted to Claudia Schiffer for agreeing to embark on this project with us to develop an exhibition of the 1990s, when fashion and media history were being written. I am also grateful for ther frankness, trust and, above all, enthousiasm for fashion photography, whose artistic potential is impressively revealed to us in Captivate!
