Esther Kroon

A considerable portion of Dutch photographer Esther Kroon's production consists of black-and-white portraits of children, made between 1988-1990 in the back streets of Barcelona and Amsterdam. The photographs are taken from a low viewpoint with flash, focusing attention on the children themselves, who seem full of confidence. This book includes numerous images from Kroon's archive, especially her portrayals of young gypsies and children from working-class neighbourhoods.
