Swedenborg

The Mystic

Non-Fictie

"Love consists in desiring to give what is our own to another and feeling his delight as our own."
-Emanual Swedenborg, Heaven and Hell
Swedenborg (1850) by Ralph Waldo Emerson is one of seven essays about internationally recognized scholars whom Emerson included in his collection, Representative Men (also available from Cosimo Classics). Although not widely recognized in current historical literature, Swedenborg, a Swedish philosopher and theologian, had a significant impact on nineteenth-century American arts, and it has been said that Swedenborg had more influence on Ralph Waldo Emerson, directly and indirectly, than any other author.
