The Jewel of the Seven Stars
Bram Stoker, born in Dublin in 1847, studied history, literature , mathematics and physics. He was not happy with his job as civil servant and went into journalism. He is most famous for this novel Dracula, but he produced more than ten novels, besides short stories. The Jewel of the Seven Stars was first published in 1903.
The Jewel of the Seven Stars is a horror story written in first person view, where you are Malcom Ross, who gets asked to help Margeret Tralawny. Her father, a famous Egyptologist, is found in his room on the ground, bleeding and unconscious. He seems to be in some sort of trance. Her father however left instructions on what to do when just such an occurence appeared. A mystery and horror novell unfold.
Of course an Egyptologist involved should give you a clue as to what sort of story is unfolding. The story is being told really slow and your mind needs to make a 'click', as this might not be the way you are used to having a story told to you.
For a story published first in 1903 it is still a good story - if you can bend your mind around the then common writing style, which is very different from today's standard - but reads more as a mystery than a horror story.
