This first book in the trilogy ensnares you right away. The fmc Clara is bad ass and it was the best female rage I read in a long time without reducing the character to a wining woman. Though you feel the enemies to lovers trope coming on soon, I ate up this truly slowburn but tragic romance. Kaelis' yearning is palpable at times!
The magical system is based on tarot and feels like a very dangerous, not to mention lethal, thing in a world built to host horrors, again and again.
Escape and get thrown into a very dangerous academia story with a cliffhanger ending you probably didn't see coming!

I raced through this book in 2 days and intend to reread because it's the type that has you building up theories and alliances in your head, and I want to backtrack if there's any evidence i have overlooked.

What a book. It is HP for grown ups with FW burning romance and the dark worldbuidling of the shepherd king duology. That's lots of good stuff all rolled in one, no?
Great romantacy read, get it when it comes out 22nd July and bask in darkness and deathly trials while lounging by the pool this summer!!
