Confusing
It's hard to find something to say about this book.
I got to it because I was looking for a descent into madness and many people said this was the most descent into madness book.
But it was absolutely nothing I was expecting.
The whole point of the book is: did she go mad or was she really possessed?
In the end it doesn't matter. It's a sort of "let all your vices and deep desires and sin have their way". I guess it's a sort of doing all you really want and being your true self, except that also includes a number of crimes that destroy other people's lives as well as her own. Is there a moral here? What is with the whole biblical thing? What is the deep meaning? I honestly have no clue, I'm still at loss.
It was a very smooth read though. I don't even know if I liked it, it made me really sad instead of scaring me, the feeling of the protagonist of being trapped and powerless, being dragged by the events and never being able to say or do anything...it's just too sad. Feels almost like reading Sylvia Plath rather than an horror story.
In any case this book will be stuck in my head for a long time, i think.
