Hanneriina Moisseinen's new graphic novel is an account of the evacuation of Finnish Karelia during the Second World War in 1944 from the perspective of women, animals and deserted soldiers.
By using a different perspective than the prevailing, traditionally male heroic one, she puts these events in a new light and gives us a different perspective on history. Moreover, she brings relief to those fleeing war and misery today by showing us that similar experiences occurred in our immediate and not too distant past. To emphasise the historical background, the graphic novel is interwoven with archival photographs from 1944.
