Lovely romance story in the Bridgerton universe
This fictional novel is about Charlotte, a girl of color who is married against her will to the King of England, George. She tries to make the best of it, but George doesn't make it easy for her: whenever she tries to approach him, he seems to push her away. At other times, he gives the impression that he loves her very much. These conflicting signals make her suspect that he carries a big secret with him. A secret that no one outside the palace walls must ever know, or the crown is gone. Can Charlotte take all the strings in her hands and protect both her new husband and England, or is this burden too heavy for one woman alone?
'Queen Charlotte' is set in the Bridgerton universe, but can be read perfectly on its own without having read the other Bridgerton books. It addresses some 'hot topics' of current society such as inequality based on skin color and gender in an 18th century setting.
I recommend it to anyone looking for a romantic book full of woman empowerment in a beautiful, 'coquette' 18th century setting.
