Some stories are delightful, some are just plain awful..

03 september 2024
My rating varies from story to story, so here’s a quick summary:

- The boy who talked with animals (5 stars)

I loved this one, because of this cute boy who is so fond of animals & would do anything to save one from being harmed. The added mystery at the end (sightings of the boy on an island with the giant turtle) is genius!

- The hitch-hiker (5 stars)

This story brought back all the feels from my high school English teacher, who was a brilliant man & from whom I gained so much knowledge! The term “finger smith” is so smart, I wonder where Dahl got his inspiration from for this one!

- The Mildenhal treasure (1 star)

A boring tale about a house where they find an ancient crown & people fighting about who the real owner is..

- The swan (1 star)

A cruel story about a little boy being “bullied” (bullied is a very soft expression, I, personally, find the expression “tortured” more suitable). It ends with a murdered swan & the little boy being forced to jump out of a huge tree with the wings of the swan attached to his arms..

- The wonderful story of Henry Sugar (4 stars)

The turn of events within this one.. Henry Sugar turns into a real hero & funds orphanages all over the world to use his money for good things. The paranormal/mystical factor makes it all the more interesting. Unfortunately, sometimes, I lose feeling with the story & it seems as if it keeps dragging on until something exciting happens again. But certainly one to re-read!

- Lucky break (2 stars)

Ugh, I can’t with all these war stories. To me, it adds nothing extra/special in comparison to other stories about the same subject. The only remotely interesting thing is the fact that the young boy seemed to have no particular talent for writing, but ends up a famous writer by sheer good “luck”.

- A piece of cake (1 star)

This is the first story of the writer & it is already being talked about in the former story. Again, I can’t with all these war stories & the ending pretty much freaked me out..
