Lezersrecensie
Solid Epic fantasy
This is the second book in the Edan Trilogy by Philip Chase. After a compelling first installment, Chase needs to reposition the chess pieces a bit, and the first third of the book feels somewhat inconsistent. At times it drags a little, but never in a disruptive way. Around the 40% mark, the pace picks up and doesn’t let go. Whereas the first book was intriguing for its introduction to the world and its philosophical foundation, this one is more of an epic fantasy driven by action. Well executed, and occasionally returning to the philosophical groundwork Chase laid in the first book, it is nonetheless a bit less surprising.
Still, true epic fantasy fans will find plenty to enjoy.
Chase guides the reader through this second installment with skill, ending on a surprisingly twisty note. Some of the choices he makes weren’t entirely expected. Just when you start wondering whether a third book is even necessary, Chase manages to land a strong hook for the final volume.
A solid second entry that avoids the usual “middle book syndrome.”
