Lucy lives with her mother in Briar Glen, a small New England town.
Her mother runs a coffee shop there.
Business was going well until a Java Junction suddenly opens in the same street.
This has reduced her income, causing stress.
Lucy tries to help out at the coffee shop after school and on the weekends.
She also regularly bakes delicious homemade pastries and cupcakes.
These are then sold in her mother's coffee shop.

Lucy has a new classmate.
And wow, he's handsome, too, with such beautiful green eyes.
This handsome guy is named Jack Harper.
She can't take her eyes off Jack.
But everything changes when she learns that his parents own the newly opened Java Junction down the street.
From now on Jack is the enemy according to Lucy.

Lucy absolutely refuses to make pumpkin spice lattes for her customers because, in her opinion, they're full of chemicals.
It's against her principles to sell this.
But because customers increasingly demand this latte due to the autumnal weather, they're going to Java Junction.
This reduces further the income for their coffee shop.

Jack keeps trying to be friendly and help Lucy attract more customers to Lucy's mother's coffee shop.
But in Lucy's eyes, he remains the enemy.

The book transports you to the autumnal atmosphere and makes you curious about all the delicious pastries Lucy makes.
Even though both main characters are in their final year of high school and have to choose what they want to study next year, the book is more of a young adult novel than a new adult novel.
There's no sex, not even a kiss, between the two characters.
But you do feel the romance between them by the end of the book.
This book beautifully tells how both characters are finding themselves, which is typical for that age.

I was unfamiliar with this author, but I hope to read more of her books in the future.
She recently wrote a new book, and this one has a Christmas theme.
I'm really looking forward to it.

Lucy woont samen met haar moeder in een dorpje in New England, Briar Glen.
Daar runt haar moeder een koffieshop.
De zaken gingen goed, tot er ineens een Java Junction open gaat in dezelfde straat. Hierdoor is het inkomen minder geworden en dit zorgt voor stress.
Lucy probeert na school en in het weekend te helpen in de koffieshop.
Ze maakt ook geregeld lekkere zelfgemaakte gebakjes of cakejes.
Die worden dan in de koffieshop van haar moeder verkocht.

Lucy heeft een nieuwe klasgenoot.
En amai, hij is ook nog eens knap en heeft zulke mooie groene ogen.
Deze knappert heeft Jack Harper.
Ze kan haar ogen niet los maken van Jack. Maar alles veranderd als ze te weten komt dat zijn ouders de eigenaren zijn van de pas geopende Java Junction in de straat.
Vanaf nu is Jack de vijand volgens Lucy.

Lucy wilt absoluut geen pumpkin spice latte maken voor haar klanten omdat dit chemische troep is volgens haar.
Het is tegen haar principes om dit te verkopen. Maar doordat de klanten door het herfstachtige weer meer en meer naar deze latte vragen, gaan deze klanten naar Java Junction.
Dit zorgt voor nog minder inkomsten voor hun koffieshop.

Jack probeert steeds vriendelijk te zijn en Lucy te helpen om toch meer klanten te verkrijgen voor de koffieshop van Lucy’s moeder.
Maar in de ogen van Lucy blijft hij de vijand.

Het boek neemt je mee in de herfstachtige sferen en maakt je nieuwsgierig naar al die lekkere gebakjes die Lucy maakt.
Ook al zijn de beide hoofdpersonages in hun laatste jaar van hun middelbare school en moeten ze volgend jaar kiezen wat ze verder willen studeren, is het boek meer een young adult dan een new adult roman.
Er komt geen seks aan bod, zelfs geen kus, tussen beide personages.
Maar je voelt wel de romantiek tussen beide personages aan het einde van het boek.
Dit boek vertelt op een mooie wijze hoe beide personages zichzelf aan het zoeken zijn, wat typisch is voor die leeftijd is.

Deze auteur was voor mij onbekend maar ik hoop in de toekomst nog verschillende boeken van haar te lezen.
Ze heeft recent een nieuw boek geschreven en nu is het een verhaal met een kerst thema.
Ik ben er al heel benieuwd naar.
