What a fun read
I've finished reading my ARC copy of 'Echoes From the Deep' written by Sandra J. Paul and Bart de Wolf. This book is a young adult horror (12+).
"The longer she thought she was safe, the longer she could pretend her world was perfectly fine."
What I love about this story is that it's a flipover. You can read two stories about the same characters, but they are totally different. I think it's refreshing and the stories were fun. Both stories were surprising too, they didn't the way I had expected them to go.
"No way out means no way in, which is an impossibility when you are being locked in a cave."
These stories are about Lev, Ziggy and Lucy. The three of them are best friends and do fun stuff together. They like to make TikTok's and try to find ways to make them go viral. But what will happen when they mix these things with darkness?
"Listen carefully, because this is your last chance. No carcasses. No dead things. This time, you give me a living body."
I enjoyed the story, it can totally be read by adults. Some things could have been a little more detailed, but it was still a fun read. Although it's for young adults, I did feel the tension grow while reading the story. Giving you the idea that the story is actually working towards something. There also were definitely enough parts that made the book feel like a horror.
"I am everything you fear and want to forget."
The two perspectives give you something to think about and makes you know the characters better. This story definitely sends: 'do not trust magic' vibes, but in a fun way. And it really focuses on needing to think about others, before thinking about your own selfish goals. Cause well.. the consequences can be horrific.
I give the story three and a half stars.
