Lezersrecensie
A book filled with humour and gay panic. Loved it from beginning to end!
Red, White & Royal Blue was the first book selected by my book club of friends and is one of the greatest rom-coms I’ve read in a long time. Written by Casey McQuiston, the story and writing is packed full with humour and romance. It’s nicely written and just the fun and lovely gay rom-com I needed to read.
Alex and Henry are both great characters that keep the story fully entertained. The narrative as well keeps the plot moving while also maintaining a perfect focus on the character’s emotions and self-discoveries. There is almost never a dull moment.
If I really need to nitpick, I thought the enemies-to-lovers bit of the story was a bit short. The banter and tension was so extremely fun to read. Alex is just that character that doesn’t realise why he has the biggest obsession with the British prince and doesn’t even question for a second that it might be a crush. Like I said, incredibly amusing and just too short.
Going into spoiler zone: what I really liked is that Alex’s sexuality I also addressed in the story. He and the other characters don’t immediately assume he’s gay when he admits he has feelings for a guy, he doesn’t ignore the fact that he is still attracted to women and thus he is bi. Being attracted to a man does not inherently erase his bisexuality and I appreciate the novel for addressing that.
Red, White & Royal Blue is a novel filled with funny and likeable characters, pretty romance and a complete story. You’ll enjoy it from beginning to end, having a rewarding and enjoyable read once you’re finished.
