Less rockstar, more romance

Janine 29 april 2025
Wicked Rockstar is the second book in Stephanie Harrell’s Wicked series. It follows Killian, a famous rock star, and Trissa, his childhood friend. Trissa asks Killian to be her dating coach to win over Peter, his former best friend. But as their ‘practice dates’ progress, Killian's feelings for Trissa deepen even more, while Trissa begins to see Killian in a completely different light.

Let me start by saying that I enjoyed this book so much more than book one! Killian’s character was far more relatable and his actions felt natural rather than over-the-top. Although this isn’t exactly a love triangle, I really liked the dynamic between Trissa, Killian, and Peter. It definitely added extra tension to the story!

That being said, Trissa wasn’t my favorite FMC. She should have stood up for herself much earlier. It was hard to believe she didn’t realize Peter never saw her in a romantic way. And the way she acted around him? She was a total doormat, which honestly became frustrating. She cried over everything, and at times, it was just too much. Killian, on the other hand, completely won me over. I have so much respect for how he handled both Trissa and Peter, it was fun to see his patience and protectiveness shine through.

I also loved revisiting Hazel, Jareth, and the other side characters. While you can read this as a standalone, it’s definitely more enjoyable if you recognize familiar faces from book one!

One thing I wished for more of? Killian’s music. Given the title Wicked Rockstar, I expected more scenes involving his career. The story’s main focus was definitely the romance, but the emotional buildup was so well done that I was completely hooked. And of course, the spice was on point again! I also appreciated that Trissa wasn’t written as a virgin. It avoided the usual cliché and made her character feel a bit more realistic.

I’m so glad I enjoyed this book more than the first because now I’m genuinely excited to explore more in this genre. And of course, I can’t wait for part three in the series next year!

Thank you Love Notes PR and Stephanie Harrell for sending me the ARC!
