Lezersrecensie
Talking pumpkins, messenger birds and Cat Dragons. How cozy does that sound?
“You were never the easy option for me. If you had been, it would have taken me a lot less than twenty years to try to kiss you”
Review 3,75 stars
Spice: Young Adult (just a few kisses and some thoughts)
Seriously, Cat Dragon is such a cute and cozy fantasy. It’s slow-paced, but that only suits the story. At the end there is a little more action which makes for a perfect ending to this book, but is it the end of the story?
We follow Aloysia Papplewick, who is a magicobotanist witch tending to the family farm where she takes care of her family, all deceased relatives who turned into pumpkins. The valley in which she lives gets its magic from a well which is powered by a Guardian. The magical system is so unique, and it was so much fun to discover more about it.
Her best friends brother is the shepherd of the Guardian. An annoying, selfish brother.
When the unthinkable happens she ends up stuck with him to save everyone in Tangleroot Valley. Will they be able to? And what to do with the growing attraction between them? On their quest they meet several interesting characters who really contribute to the story. They’re fierce, clumsy but also very good friends and people who truly contribute to the cause, even though you might not trust them immediately.
This book is full with delicious tropes like; forced proximity, one bed, best friends brother and some light grumpy vs sunshine.
You’ll also discover a lot of new amazing magical creatures like: Cat Dragons, Guardians (dragons of different kinds), Lichentropes, Coo’s, Cockatrices and many many more.
It was slow-paced and sometimes I just missed something, I can’t put my finger on it. But it’s definitely a must read for the cozy season and I really enjoyed it!
Some of my favorite quotes:
“I understand that I look like The Lost Princess and that you feel a natural urge to kiss me in my sleep, put me over your shoulder or otherwise Rescue Me in some way that I assure you would result in you sacrificing more that a few of your most favourite teeth.”
“You’re more than your job. You’re not like Mr, it’s not what defines you”
“What’s the point in having a friend who’s built like a coo-shed if you’re not here when we need to drag things?!”
