Lezersrecensie
Be unrelenting and unmerciful in the face of the wicked dead.
I must admit I was a little afraid the book wouldn’t live up to the hype, but man did it!
It’s a fantasy world with a lot of different elements to it, but the world building doesn’t feel overwhelming because it’s woven through the story and you learn more and more as the story progresses.
The different characters al grow a lot and when you get to know them and their stories you fall in love with them more and more. I can’t wait to learn even more about Lorreth and Carrion though! I hope we’ll unveil more of their story in the next book.
And Kingfisher and Saeris (what a gorgeous name by the way)… what can I say. Grumpy vs grumpy, enemies to lovers, forced proximity, fated mates, you get it all in QuickSilver. And I just love how Kingfisher starts off as a totally a**hole and turned out to be kind of a golden retriever in the end. Just for Saeris of course, but still. I really enjoyed their banter and all the snarky comments. Their bond is truly unique and evolves beautifully. Yes, there are some parts I liked a little less, like the need to make decisions for Saeris, but Kingfisher learns. And Saeris sometimes is just too stubborn for her own good, but also learns to trust people a bit more over time.
The story flowed great, it was easy to read and I really got transported to the dystopian but magical realm of Yvelia.
Some of my favorite quotes:
It was harsh, but sometimes the cruel things we said served the kindest purpose.
Death is an open doorway that’s meant to be walked through. On the other side of it lies peace. Count yourself lucky that you get to make the journey at all.
A mirror’s sole purpose was to tell you the truth. It didn’t differentiate between good and bad. A mirror had no desire to soothe your troubles or deceive you. It was glass and nothing more. This pool of shining silver was awake and full of lies.
Congratulations on achieving fucking sainthood.
He could be an angry, arrogant, half-mad, outrageously handsome piece of shit and an intelligent tactician at the same time.
Never forget. Monsters thrive best in the dark. Commit all you read here to memory. Prepare for war!!
Because she is moonlight. The mist that shrouds the mountains. The bite of electricity in the air before a storm. The smoke that rolls across a battlefield before the killing starts. You have no idea what she is. What she could be. You should call here majesty.
I don’t want bright and happy. I want real.
“I was wrong, y’know. You are a good thief.” “What have I stolen?” But he smiled a small, sad smile, slowly shaking his head.
Be unrelenting and unmerciful in the face of the wicked dead.
Don’t you dare die on my watch, Saeris Fane! Fisher will never forgive me if his sole reason for living is torn to pieces of her first fucking battlefield.
That’s what Oshellith means in Old Fae, Saeris. Most sacred.
There were moments that were gifts, meant to be cherished only for as long as you could remember them.
