Endymion: A Journey Worth Every Step

ThaFreeze 24 augustus 2025
Endymion by Dan Simmons is an easy 5 out of 5 for me. Everything about this book clicked: the characters, their growth, and the way it connects so beautifully to the first two volumes of the Hyperion Cantos.

This is not just a continuation of the story; it feels like the universe itself is expanding in front of you. Simmons balances breathtaking moments of adventure with scenes of quiet reflection, letting you see how personal choices ripple through an epic backdrop. The worldbuilding is richer than ever, and the narrative feels both urgent and timeless.

What I loved most is how Raul and Aenea evolve during their journey. Their bond feels real and fragile, while also carrying a weight that echoes everything that came before in Hyperion and The Fall of Hyperion. Simmons gives them space to breathe, which makes the high-stakes moments hit even harder. I also loved how familiar elements return in unexpected ways, showing that nothing in this universe ever truly disappears.

Endymion is everything I want from science fiction: bold ideas, a sense of wonder, and characters who feel truly alive. It is epic without being distant, thoughtful without slowing down. If you have read the first two books, this one feels like a reward. If you have not, start at the beginning, because the entire series is something special.
