The Maid tells the story of Molly, a maid at the Regency Grand Hotel. Molly is the embodiment of a perfect maid. But where she excels at her work, reading social cues is quite the challenge for her. That does not mean that Molly does not try. As the hard worker that she is, she still tries to do her very best, even if she is accused of murder.

The Maid is the winner in the 2022 Goodreads choice awards in the category: Best Mystery & Thriller. I understand why. Halfway through this book, I could not put it down. Especially the ending is phenomenal. The plot twists are great, the book is well passed and the characters are well written.

I respect Molly so much. It’s not specified in the book, but it is apparent that Molly has some form of autism. How she navigates through difficult situations is hearth warming to see. I know it’s not a given for everyone who struggles whit autism to develop their social skills. Not all people are the same and whit that not all disabilities are the same. No two people whit autism are comparable. Whit her growth, Molly reminded me to have patience and not to assume things about others. Not all disabilities are visible. So this book is a good reminder to have patience and not to judge others.

When I picked up this book, I expected just another murder mystery. To my surprise, I found a book that not only entertained me but made me think. For that, I thank Nita Prose. I can’t wait to read more books from her in the future.
