Mortals vs Gods
Scarlet in Death’s Emissary by Emily Devereux has to be in the service of the goddess Death in order to survive. At the same time she gets whats she desires most: someone to teach her magic. But she has to save her mother as well to safeguard her mother’s secret.
From the very first I was totally immersed into the world Emily Devereux has created. The worldbuilding is epic, fantastic and very well developed. The writing style is fast paced and flowing, I had a really hard time putting the book down. The storyline is fantastic, it is unlike anything I have read lately. And the theme mortal versus gods is one I just love.
Scarlet is a great character, she is headstrong and wants to find her mother desperately. As she gets into an uneasy alliance with a rebel force, she gets more developed and grows throughout the story.
Death’s Emissary is a great epic YA fantasy novel, with a fantastic storyline, a fast paced writing style and with a very likable FMC. I can’t wait to read the sequel and see how the story continues.
