Een fantastische hervertelling van Peter Pan

Ship of Shadows by Tee Harlowe is a retelling of the tale of Peter Pan and The Lost Boys. I must admit though I absolutely loved the story, could not find a trace of this tale at first but that did not bother me at all. I was hooked completely from the very first page. The fast paced and flowing writing style, the action, mystery, the magic and the plot and the wonderful characters made that I could not stop reading. I tried to read slower, but that was a losing game.

The plot of this book is so good. Each time there is another twist. As the story went along traces of the story of Peter Pan came forth, but in such a different and good way. I absolutely loved how Tee Harlowe made the fairy tale completely her own. She has written a fantastic story and I am amazed how she did this!

The characters are also wonderful, they just leap off the pages. I loved the Water Princess, she is fierce, loyal, but wants a different life. And the Pirate Lord, he is amazing. Their interactions and building relationship is great. They have a fantastic chemistry. But the Ambassador is my favorite character. He is loyal, but his actions and sentences are just filled with humor.

The magic system, elemental magic, is very well developed and it seems just natural. The worldbuilding is amazing and so well thought out. The mythology woven into the story is also great and I loved that a lot.
This retelling of Peter Pan is amazing! It is a fantastic story in itself, but I just love how I discovered some traces of this tale along the way. And how Tee Harlowe made up a different Captain Hook is so very well done. I had no idea at all who this could be, but near the end there it was.
The ending of this book is great, there are some lose ends, which will be revealed I am sure in the next book in this series, as Tee Harlowe made some characters say things that makes me want to read the next book now!

Ship of Shadows is a great retelling, with lots of action, romance, betrayal, magic, mystery, with a great and mesmerizing writing style, a great and fantastic plot and with pirates! It is everything you want in a fantasy novel. This is the second book in the Stolen Crown series, but it is a complete standalone story. I have not read the first book, but I definitely will read that book soon, as other books in this series if they come along. I enjoyed it a lot.
