Juweeltje van een boek (English review)

Zelda 12 september 2020
"...there can be magic in the ordinary."

"But as long as you remember to be just and kind like I know you are, what those people think won't matter in the long run. Hate is loud, but I think you'll learn it's because it's only a few people shouting, desperate to be heard. You might not ever be able to change their minds, but so long as you remember you're not alone, you will overcome."

"Change starts with the voices of the few"

This fantastical book was nothing like I expected it to be. It was a very quiet story, but at the same time roaring with little things that will make you fall in love with the children and their keeper. The adults' attempts to protect their little ones from prejudice and to provide them a safe home, as all children deserve no matter who they are, brought a soaring pang to my motherheart.

"A home is not always the house we live in."

I may not be a middle aged "round" man like Linus Baker, but he was relatable on so many levels. To break out from your comfort zone and to see below the surface of a person, to grasp wonderful life as it is thrown in your face, to take that chance when it presents itself; all things I could learn from too.

..."that we can find the most unexpected things when we aren't even looking for them."

Heck, I can't wait to reread this one. I wish I was there.
