A dark and twisted family drama
“They weren’t bad books,” Phin countered patiently. “They were books that you didn’t enjoy. It’s not the same thing at all. The only bad books are books that are so badly written that no one will publish them. Any book that has been published is going to be a ‘good book’ for someone.”
For me The Family Upstairs wasn’t a bad book at all, as it held my attention and kept me turning the pages. The plot was well crafted and brought with it an element of mystery and gothic suspense, along with an atmosphere that felt increasingly sinister. But for me this book hardly feels like a thriller - it’s more of a dark and twisted family drama, one that is a little hard to believe.
All in all, a solid mystery from an obviously talented author, but one that in the end, failed to impress.
