Thorougly confused by the ending
It was a 5 ⭐ read for me up until page 500 or so. I feel so utterly confused, there are no words.
Full review coming up, but I'm just going to stare in front of me contemplating life and morals and right and wrong for an hour or two mkay.
Ok so I've had some time to think about it and I stand by my 4 stars. I enjoyed this book thoroughly and laughed and cried and squealed and all the good stuff, but those last 100 pages are seriously effed up.
Ignoring the ending, Poppy and Hawke's situationship and tension was EXQUISITE. The banter, the stubbornness even Hawke's slightly inappropriate comments, I loved it allllllll.
But then. After, I'd say page 500 (when shit went down, you know) and he still continued the inappropriate comments, I was actually revolted by them. Especially when she was angry enough to claw his eyes out and basically cut a certain appendix off and he just mentioned that she'd need it later on? Not okay dude. NOT okay.
Where I was rooting for them to reconcile earlier, I was now hoping she'd escape and never see him again. Of course, that's not what happened because he was her first and she's in love and all that.
But what happened next was all SO confusing that I'm still not sure I read it right?
(1) She learns that he lied to her for the entirety of their situationship, (2) his men kill basically all her guards in front of her, (3) capture her, (4) try to kill her, (5) she then stabs him, (6) runs away, (7) HAS SEX WITH HIM IMMEDIATELY AFTERWARDS (in the snow, I might add, because that's normal), and then (8) she's scared he won't forgive her?? Oh and somewhere in between there's also some blood sucking (6.5 or sth).
Like.. how is anyone supposed to process all of that in just 100 pages? And then as a bloody cherry on this already messed up cake, it ends with a suggestion for marriage? I mean.. I'm not okay you guys.
