Een must read voor Brontë liefhebbers

Hilma Werff 18 maart 2024
“If you’re a fan of the Brontës, and enjoy steamy contemporary rom-coms with all the feels, then add this one to your TBR!”

Brontë Lovers by Angela Pearse is the story of Lizzy, who tags along with her boyfriend when he has to go to Haworth, the home of the Brontë sisters. When she meets guide Dain, who is totally into the Brontë novels and seems to have stepped out of a Brontë novel the way he dresses, they connect immediately. As her boyfriend becomes more distracted and jealous, their relationship builds into something more.

From the very first I was hooked by this story. The writing style is great, flowing and you can tell Angela Pearse loves the Brontës. The whole book breaths Brontës, and that is so great. As a reader you get swept away in this story and I just loved all the references to the Brontës and their lifes and novels.

Lizzy is a wonderful character. She is loyal, but sometimes I wished she would have chosen herself and not her boyfriend. He is something else, though, totally self absorbed and I could not fathom that Lizzy stayed with him. Dain is the opposite and he and Lizzy have a great chemistry. But he also has some secrets and when they come out, that was a great surprise to me.

The worldbuilding is amazing. Everything was beautifully written, detailed and sometimes I could see myself wandering on the moors, just like Lizzy. The atmosphere of the moors you could just feel. And the house Dain lives in, even though completely outdated, you could see before your eyes.

This novel is just wonderful. It has a wonderful plot, a likable FMC and a fantastic character (Dain). When I ended this book, I just wanted to go to Haworth and visit the Brontës. I will definitely go read the Brontës novels again, because this book has made me long for reading Wuthering Heights and Jane Eyre.

If you are a fan of the Brontës, then this is a must read for you, but also if you like an entertaining novel, with some mystery and a great writing style, go and read this book.
