Half-truths lead to the best lies

Manon Visser 30 april 2021 Auteur
4 stars! This was a book full of half-truths, which lead to the best lies.

The book is devided in chapters, but it is not chronologically ordered. At first I found this a bit confusing, bit after a while I saw what the pattern was and from that point the book was so great!

It follows an investigation of a death, the death of the main character's boyfriend Jack. Only two people know what really happened: Elise (the shooter) and Remy (the girlfriend), but Elise lives in a world she built for herself in her head with half-truths and Remy was so traumatized she missed fourteen minutes of the incident. Remy is interrogated by a police officer and she tells all different kind of parts of the story. In the end it makes for a whole story. At the beginning the friendship between Elise and Remy seems normal, cute even. But after a few pages it becomes clear that this friendship is based on lies and manipulation. Elise is the one doing the manipulation to keep Remy in her life. It is toxic really. So toxic that Remy tries to protect Elise from going to jail, even though Elise was the one who shot Jack.

I won't spoil to much, because this is actually a really well-built story and a great murder mystery. I will say this though: the characters are great and the storyline is so amazingly written that it keeps you at the edge of your seat.
