Elvis Presley, I stan

4 stars! This was such a great concept!

Through the story you follow the detour of Amy and Roger (surprise am I right?). At first Amy is supposed to follow the guide her mom provided, but she decides to see more of America with Roger, the son of a friend of Amy’s mom.

The story is building up quite nicely. At first Amy and Roger are getting to know each other. Amy is closed off because she blames herself for her fathers death. Roger is dealing with an ex girlfriend he can’t seem to let go. They both need closure and that’s what the detour will provide in the end. The entire storyline leads up to that. It’s not a love story, not at all. It’s a story about finding yourself and gaining peace. I loved that. Also the graphics on the inside were so fun! I loved all the receipts, postcards, journal entries and such. But a tip: don’t put them in the middle of a chapter when they take up a whole page, I was lost sometimes because of this. But still, it makes up for a bit more interactive reading!

Beside the interruption of the graphics, I also didn’t really feel the kissing part. To me it felt like they were building more of a friendship. Like it happened really quickly. As if the author was like oh I need romance. It’s not a necessity. If it works, it’s great, but it doesn’t need to feel forced. In this case I thought it was.

Still, lovely book by one of my favorite authors!
