Ice hockey romance
Checking Mr. Wrong by Anne Kemp is the third book in the interconnected standalone hockey romance series: Love in Maple Falls. The scene is the small-town Maple Falls, the base of the Ice Breakers, Maple Falls’ own ice hockey team. Each book has a different couple.
In this book Mabel, the daughter of Mary Ellen McCluskey, the town’s gossip, returns to her hometown to write some articles for a magazine about the hockey team. When her plane lands, she has to share a ride home with a very sunny guy. Their meet-cute is so funny! She is the grumpy one, while Asher, a hockey player, is all sunny and full of charm. As she learns who he is and she has to interview him, their banter is great and slowly a relationship is building. But of course, things can go wrong.
And once again a Love in Maple Falls book was fantastic! The story and interactions between Asher and Mabel are a joy to read. The writing is flowing, engaging and I had a really hard time putting the book down. Anne Kemp has a great funny writing style.
Mabel is a great character and you can understand why she was hesitant to return home, because of the difficult relationship with her mother. Thanks to Asher at the end of the book they get along better and understand the other. Asher is a great guy, I love him. He is all charm and sunny, but also has a secret. They are complete opposites and the way Asher tries to make Mabel more happy and outgoing, I loved to read about.
The interactions between the hockey players are also great, I love how they team up and have each other’s back. Anne Kemp describes the game fantastic; you can almost feel all the emotions the public has and that is a job well done.
Ice hockey romances are great to read and this one, as the whole series, I can highly recommend!
