Enemies to Lovers

Hilma Werff 26 juli 2025
As I am a big fan of hockey romances, I wanted to read Pucking Hate You by Lilian Rox. The plot sounded really nice, an enemies to lovers trope. River and ice hockey star Nolan hate each other ever since he bumped into her car. But as her best friend is married to the team captain, River and Nolan see each other more than they would like. But there is also an ongoing attraction, you can tell as a reader. And then as there will be the 50th anniversary of the ice hockey team, Nolan and River need to spend more time together, as she is the writer of the book and he the one she has to interview and travel with.

I just loved this book! It made me smile a lot. River is a really nice character; she lives for her job and hates hockey. We get to know the reason a little later on in the book. Nolan is the typical ice hockey player, charming and cocky, but he lives for his sport. When River has to interview him, he does not like it one bit, but when he learns she is serious and a great interviewer and writer, he changes his mind. Their interactions make for a growing friendly relationship and maybe something more. When we learn why River hates hockey, it was so sad to read about that and totally understandable. As the story progresses there is a plot twist and it was so sweet what Nolan did then. Both Riven and Nolan are wonderful and very likable characters.

The story-line and plot are well thought out, there is humour, romance and some drama in this book, which made for a lovely time reading. The world-building is descriptive, I loved how while reading the book you feel the tension of a hockey game.

The writing style is flowing and engaging, I loved reading this book. It is the second book in a series, but you can easily read this book as a standalone. I will definitely read the other books in this series.

Highly recommend if you love hockey romances, like I do.
