Wat een heerlijke en humoristiche hockey romance
Fake-Off with Fate by Whitney Dineen is the first book in the new Love in Maple Falls series, a follow-up series of Love on Thin Ice. Both are a multi-author interconnected clean ice-hockey romance series with a setting in the lovely small town of Maple Falls.
In this book Ashlyn, a closet designer/organiser for the rich and famous, and Jamie, the ice-hockey captain of the Ice Breakers hockey team of Maple Falls, are the main characters. When Ashlyn returns home to rescue her parent’s marriage, she meets with Jamie and they have a wonderful chemistry from the very first time they meet. Jamie is relocated from New York and it is really adorable and also very humoristic to see how he gets on with the wildlife around him. As he and Ashlyn have to work together to keep a secret (do read the book and you find out what that is) and an ex-girlfriend turns up, Jamie devises a plan.
From the very first page I loved this story! Right from the start I had a really hard time putting the book down and it was so very nice to return to Maple Falls. If that was a real town I would go there right away. The way Whitney Dineen describes the small town with the scenery and people who live there, it is all so charming and I could see it before my eyes. Maybe we need a tv series? I would love to see that. Gilmore Girls has the same feeling.
The writing style is flowing and engaging and the book is such a joy to read. The Ice Breakers are now in the NHL and they want the win the Super Cup. Jamie is a great character, very charming and I loved the dual POV, this way we got to know what he was feeling when confronted with wildlife. Ashlyn I just loved, she is a great character and comes across friendly and sympathetic. Her interaction with Jamie is a joy to read, but her interaction with her father’s (as her father is the Mayor of Maple Falls) assistant Philip, are just hilarious. Sometimes I got a little bit sorry for Philip.
The plot and story-line are great! When we thought all was going well with Maple Falls and the Ice Breakers, Whitney Dineen had a big surprise for us readers. I will not go into any details too much, but that was well thought of.
The Love in Thin Ice series has become one of my all-time favourite hockey series, and I was very eager to read the follow up series. Now that I have read the first book in this Love in Maple Falls series, I can tell you, this series will become one of my favourites as well. Fake-Off with Fate is a wonderful and engaging story, with a fantastic scenery, a good plot, and with two fantastic main character who you root for. I enjoyed every minute of it and I cannot wait to read the other books in this series. Oh, and do download the bonus chapter at the end.
All books are standalone stories, but for the best reading experience I would recommend to start at the beginning with the Love on Thin Ice books and then the Love on Maple Falls books.
Highly recommend if you want to read sweet, cute, clean hockey romance stories.
