Yours to Lose follows Jo, an enthusiastic museum professional who dives into a summer of fun in New York, and Jordan, a broody and guarded man still healing from deep loss. The story captures their evolving friendship that slowly turns into something deeper during one unforgettable summer.
This was such a lovely read! I really enjoyed the dual POV: getting to see both Jo and Jordan’s thoughts made the story so much more interesting. Plus, the first-person perspective is my favorite, so that was a big win too.
The story just made my heart full. Jo and Jordan’s friends-to-lovers journey was sweet, fun, and full of those slow-burn moments I adore. Their connection felt real and authentic, and Jo’s “summer of fun” made me want to book a trip to NYC asap.
I also liked Jo’s background and her job at the museum, I only wish we’d seen a bit more of that after her move to NYC. Jordan also completely stole my heart. He’s been through so much, and watching him slowly open up to Jo was beautiful. And Dippy the dinosaur? Give him his own book, please.
The side characters were just as great. From Jordan’s brothers and Jo’s sisters to their friends and Jordan’s wonderful mom, they added so much charm to the story. And that scene where Jo leaves a message at Allie’s grave gave me instant tears.
If I had to mention one downside: the spicy scenes didn’t entirely work for me. I usually enjoy some steam, but here it felt a little out of sync with the characters.
All in all, I’m definitely picking up more from Samantha Brinn. I can’t wait to read the rest of the series and spend more time with these lovely characters.
Thanks to Wordsmith Publicity and the author for the ARC!
