Dark Winter by Emily Casilli is the story of Serena who helps Ambrose escape a witch hunt, in Salem of all places.

I loved the plotline and enjoyed the story in general. The writing style is flowing, descriptive, but the book could use some proof reading/editing. That being said, it was very interesting to read about Salem. There is a lot of tension between the characters and they have a wonderful interaction. You could feel Serena’s struggle for her loyalty to her townspeople and her attraction to Ambrose. They are likable characters you root for. What I did not suspect, was the horror element: the monters who are on the hunt are very well desbribed, you can see them before your eyes.

Reading Dark Winter has surprised me, it is a quick read, easy to follow, but unpredictable, which I liked. This way I kept on reading. Hopefully there will be a sequel, because the ending needs answers.
