Intriguing horror novel!
‘When the Wolf Comes Home’ by Nat Cassidy is an intriguing horror novel that takes its time to build, but ultimately makes a strong impact.
To be honest, I had a hard time getting into the story during the first half. Cassidy’s writing is vivid and descriptive, but for me, something was missing in the execution that made it hard to stay fully engaged. It wasn’t exactly boring, but it did feel a bit drawn out before things really started happening.
That said, I’m glad I pushed through, because the second half was a completely different experience.
The pacing picks up, the characters become more layered, and the story develops into something truly fascinating. The theme of fear really resonated with me—it felt personal and was handled in a way that made the story emotionally impactful.
I also really loved the graphic, bloody details—brutal in the best way.
Despite the slow start, I was ultimately impressed by Cassidy’s unique voice, and I definitely want to read more of his work. If you’re into psychological horror with guts (literally and figuratively), this one’s worth a read!
