My favorite of the three
I've finished reading 'Hide From Me' written by Trin Savage. This is the third book in the Chaotic love series and is a dark military romance.
"She's gorgeous, like storm clouds that split to let a ray of light peak through and illuminate the destruction it caused."
I've enjoyed all three books, but I really think this third one has to be my absolute favorite. The story captured me, it pulled me in and held on to me until the end. This one reads even more easy as the other two, it made me start reading to never want to stop.
"There's this insane urge within me to see if my future is already written in stone, destined to be some twisted, broken, chaotic person like everyone says I am."
This book is about Moe and Raylen. Moe is a side character in both book one and two, and indirectly so is Raylen. Moe is a legacy and a military man through and through, although he seems to have started a search to find his true self. Raylen works at a diner with her best friend. Her days filled more with darkness than anything else. The question is if there will be light for either of them?
"Pathetic. I'm a grown man having a panic attack over my own reflection. God, this proves it—I'm so out of my mind that I should be committed to an institution, yet everyone let's me walk free like a lost puppy."
This story isn't an epic love story. It's bruised, damaged, broken, chewed up and spit out. And still.. what defines an epic love?
I think living solely in darkness and chaos, being used only to trauma and fighting, always playing the side part and never being the main character, being stitched together by scars AND still being able to open yourself up and find love.. how can that not be an epic love story.
"There are so many things that stay hidden from the world. Abandoned buildings. Lost jobs. Buried bodies. We call them secrets... like that justifies the lies we tell to protect them."
What has made an impression in the story about Moe and Raylen has to be the strength they both possess. It's impossible not to feel with them and feel for them. Making this a story that bonds over trauma, over broken pasts and memories full of fear. But also making this story about trust, being vulnerable, healing, growing and moving on. This makes that Trin created a story so powerful, deep and unique, that it leaves a lasting impression. A story like this doesn't deserve anything less than five stars.
