Lezersrecensie
Arguably the best book ever written.
Funny, with lots of action and - almost - a positive view on the world. A point of view which corresponds entirely with the character of its main and worldfamous actor: Pickwick. Concentrating on all bad things that can happen when a naïve person starts wandering about in the world, accompanied by his friends who look up to this person as a "brain". And luckily quite often saved by his servant who is standing with both feet firmly on the ground. Not shy to show us the negative aspects of poverty in Victorian times, Dickens - my favourite classic - manages to add a smile and more than a touch of hope to the horrible view to which he treats us.
Some no longer used words are explained in a register at the end of the book. The frequent use of dialect - although adding enormously to the authenticity of the book - require the reader to keep his attention focused on the story.
