Gripping conclusion of first arc

Xan 01 februari 2026
It had been a while since I read Binding 13, but that didn't mean I wasn't excited to read the next part in this series. I have to say that book two reeled me in better than book one, although I still had some struggles with it while reading.

First the good. I love how the whole relationship between Shannon and Johnny turned out. They were so cute together. Loved Gibsie and Claire a lot in this one too. I have to say that I kept feeling sad for Shannon throughout the whole book again (and her brothers too). Those poor people never got a break in life, up until the end of this book and even that situation builds from another bad one.

The 'bad' is up next. It wasn't necessarily that I thought the things I'm going to describe were bad, but I felt trepidation at some points, which is why they go in this part of the review. One thing being the smut. Even though it wasn't described into detail, the parties involved were minors and that sat wrong with me. Call me prude, whatever, but I would have liked a fade to black more in this case than the scene we got now. The second thing I deducted points for is the predictability. I could tell what was going to happen at different points in the book. Was it because the lead up to it was so obvious or my own skill, I don't know, but it definitely lost some points there.

In the end I did enjoy this book. The topics were heavy and it was quite different from your regular run of the mill romance book. In the end I would recommend this book to others, be it with the caveat I described above. It will probably take a while, but I will be picking up the next part in this series when I have time for it.
