Amazing slow burn
This book got thrown onto my path by one of the book club girlies. I put this one in my TBR jar and picked it as my first book from said jar. My friend was super hyped about this book, so there were definitely some high expectations. But in truth? I think a lot of them were met.
I did need a moment to adjust to the huge chapters in this book. I had just read one with short chapters, so I needed to get used to the chapters int he beginning. I have to say that at some point it stopped mattering and I just went through the chapters without noticing they were long. That was the first sign of a good book.
If you are looking for a slow burn, look no further, because this one is the slowest of burns. I think you have to wait until the last 13 procent to actually see a smidge of romance. This definitely made this a good enemies to lovers too because of that.
Jasmine and Ivan had a good dynamic, they constantly poked the bear with witty banter. But on the other hand they're obviously very aware of each other. It was very obvious to me that Ivan had a problem with Jasmine's previous partner Paul. It was also fairly obvious that Ivan fell first and quite hard, but that made the whole thing super cute. He was also super protective of her and that had me silently squealing in delight.
There were some minor things that irked me in the story, hence why it didn't score higher than a five. One of them is the nickname Ivan has for Jasmine. It's so close to body shaming and I wasn't here for it. One other reason, was that I read it in Dutch and there were some mistakes in the translation. Sad to read that.
In conclusion I thought this was an amazing romance book. From the delectable slow burn to the good execution of enemies to lovers. If those tropes speak to you, definitely consider picking up this book!
