My first McFadden book!
I read this book as another book club pick with Ooh's & Aah's Book Babes. This was my very first Freida McFadden book.
The first line of this book was so intriguing, that I immediately was hooked into it. It reads: 'Digging a grave is hard work.' And boom, what a first line. This book is told from three different perspectives: Eve, Addie and Nate.
I got to admit, I had a lot of thoughts on the characters and how they acted, and most of them were just me judging them. Eve was so obviously not happy with her life, and I was so rolling my eyes at Eve and Addie's behaviour. The only reason I felt like I could judge Addie less was because she was a sixteen year old child and not an adult. They're definitely not the best people: from stealing, to cheating (both in a relationship context and otherwise) and manipulating, the characters didn't keep their noses clean so to speak. Especially Nate was a disgusting human being in my personal opinion, the book will show you why.
In the end I did see a lot of things coming. And the book definitely lost points on that accord. I do have to say that the last chapter did end up surprising me still, so there's also that.
Ultimately I quite enjoyed this book, it was a thriller that felt quite different from the ones I read so far, and I definitely am curious about Freida's other works now. I will definitely pick one up in the future when my reading schedule allows it!
