The Rainfall Market is a touching and imaginative story about Serin, a young Korean woman who feels trapped in a life she never wished for. Living in poverty with only her mother, and missing the sister she loves deeply, Serin longs for a chance to start over. When she hears about the mysterious Rainfall Market — a magical place where you can choose your ideal life — it feels like her only hope for happiness.

Getting there is not easy. Only those who receive an invitation are allowed to enter, and the rules are strict. When Serin finally receives the Golden Ticket, she steps into a world full of wonder, strange creatures, and endless possibilities. But the market is not just a place of dreams — every choice comes with conditions, and nothing is as simple as it seems.

During her journey, Serin meets kind and magical beings who help her along the way, and without realizing it, she forms friendships that become more valuable than the perfect life she is searching for. Each life she tries teaches her something new, and again and again she discovers that what looks perfect on the outside always carries hidden struggles.

I really enjoyed reading this book. It is fascinating to see what different people strive for, and what those dreams actually bring them in the end. The story shows in a very honest way that the life we think we want is not always the life that truly makes us happy.

What makes the book even more special is the story of the author herself. Her personal background adds an extra layer of meaning to the novel, and in my opinion it makes the message even more powerful and healing. Because of that, I would truly recommend reading everything in the book — including the author’s notes — and not only the story itself.

This is a magical, emotional, and thoughtful story about dreams, choices, friendship, and learning to accept life as it is. It leaves you with an important question:
Would we really be happier if we could live a different life — or do we need to learn how to live our own?
