Joni Lark, a successful songwriter, returns to her hometown after experiencing a creative block and a personal crisis. She begins to hear a melody and a man's voice in her head, which she initially dismisses as a figment of her imagination.
The voice belongs to a man named Sasha, and they discover they have a telepathic connection. To escape their connection, they decide to finish the song haunting their minds.
Sounds like Love is this beautiful story with themes like love, loss, family, burnout, music and finding yourself again.
"There's nothing about you that I won't like. And if there is, I'll just write a song about it."
This was my first book by Ashley Poston and I truly enjoyed it. Her writing is very vivid which made it read like a movie in my head. I love that so much.
There were times when I was giggling like a schoolgirl and kicking my feet. I absolutely loved both lead characters and I couldn’t help but root for them to achieve their dreams and be together.
The connection Joni and Sasha share is just so much fun to “watch”. I love how it evolves and how they both evolve with it. Joni is a bit stubborn at first but she opens up for him and that’s so beautiful. And Sasha… He came in kinda smug and all, but he became such a swoon-worthy mmc. That man knows just what to say, I’ll tell you that.
Also: Joni was so so relatable to me! She felt so real. The way she lost her motivation and passion for something that used to make her happy. How she felt like nothing was ever good enough. How she dealt with her parents selling the Revelry. How she tried to give her mom’s dementia a place… It all felt super relatable and I truly loved that about this book.
"You feel like home, bird."
This book touches the topic of dementia in such a beautiful, yet painful way. We get to see glimpses of it from very close by and I’m sure those who know/knew someone with dementia, will definitely feel this.
Overall a really fun, deeply romantic and lighthearted read about topics that aren’t so light. It does make you stop and think for a second. Or at least, I did.
